I have started to attend Yoga classes at my local gym and I am wondering if anyone has had any experiences with Yoga.

Chocolate Party

Jun 28, 2007 11:04 PM
I attended a "Chocolate Party" tonight. I assumed it was someone from this area trying to sell some homemade chocolates but instead it was a presentation by a company selling chocolate as health supplements like vitamins. Apparently, Oprah Winfrey has talked about these chocolate nuggets on her show and she swears by them. These chocolate nuggets are pure dark chocolate flavoured with some sort of berry and together they make a nugget that is chock full of antioxidants and are supposed to be very good for you. I can't remember the name of the company and if I could, I know I couldn't pronounce it - it began with an "X" and I wasn't able to buy any of the products without first "buying" a membership to this company. I didn't like the idea of having to pay a fee in order to be able to buy their products so I didn't buy anything. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this sort of "Chocolate Party".

Re:: Merv's Pitchfork Fondue

Mar 29, 2007 7:28 PM
I must say, I've never heard of cooking a steak this way. It does sound intriguing. May have to hand this one over to hubby to try out!

Author, Diane Mott Davidson

Feb 18, 2007 11:53 PM
I have been reading a book by Diane Mott Davidson and I'm wondering if anyone has read her books. There are about 10 books in this series and they are about a caterer named Goldy who, in each book, finds herself involved in solving a mystery. They have great titles like Dying for Chocolate, The Cereal Murders, The Main Corpse - you get the idea. Each book in this series contains recipes for whatever dishes she is serving at the events she is catering. Ms. Davidson's books remind me of Janet Evanovich's "Stephanie Plum" series of mysteries - very funny and entertaining. Just thought some of you might like to check it out.

Merv's Pitchfork Fondue

Feb 16, 2007 12:37 AM
I am not kidding about this. Has anyone ever heard about it? I was watching a show called "Great Canadian Food" on The Food Network Canada today and it was all about some guy in Saskatchewan named Merv Brandt. The fondue is actually a huge vat of cooking oil and he puts a bunch of rib eye steaks onto a pitchfork and immerses them in the vat of hot cooking oil. The steaks are 12 ounces and take about 3 1/2 minutes to cook. The steaks are so tender that you can eat them with a plastic knife and fork. I googled "Merv's Pitchfork Fondue" and found many websites about this. This Pitchfork Fondue idea is being franchised and the first American one is in Hawaii. I'm hoping that someone will check this out and tell me what they think.

To: All Food Network Junkies

Feb 7, 2007 12:48 AM
This is a message to all of you Food Network junkies out there. Which of the chefs on The Food Network would you compare yourself to. For me it would be "The Barefoot Contessa". Do we have any Paula Deene's or Rachael Ray's out there?

Campbell's is the BEST

Dec 17, 2006 10:53 PM
Has anyone out there visited any of the other websites like Campbell's? I have recently checked out the Kraft and Taste of Home websites. Campbell's is by far the best. Kraft's is boring and Taste of Home's is downright scary. Thanks to everyone here for making this such a great place to be.

Thanks for the recipes CD. I will try to post some of our favourite Christmas cookie recipes soon. I spent all afternoon and evening making Belgian Cookies. There is always so much to do this time of year.

Christmas Baking

Nov 30, 2006 10:45 PM
Today, we started our Christmas Baking. I get together with my daughters and we make tons of stuff. Almond Crescents, Belgium Cookies, Centennial Squares, Almond Bark, Butter Tarts, Mars Bar Squares, No Bake Brownies, Peanut Butter Squares and this year's new recipe is for Hazelnut Kisses. It's a lot of work but so enjoyable to spend time in the kitchen with my grown-up daughters and share in the family tradition of making Christmas treats. I know that when my youngest son comes home from University for his Christmas Break, he will appreaciate all the hard work that went into the "Baking".

Hope to hear about all of your family traditions at this time of year.

Mom's Meatloaf

Nov 5, 2006 12:33 AM
Have a great tip for everyone. My Mom makes the best meatloaf ever. Her secret ingredient is Campbell's Vegetable Soup. After she has added the bread crumbs, the egg. the spices and the onion to the ground beef, she throws in a can of Vegetable Soup. She shapes it all into "meatloaf" shapes and then wraps them in foil, poking lots of holes in the bottom and then bakes them in a roasting pan on the turkey lifter. There might be a more technical term than "turkey lifter" but I am sure you all know what I am talking about. Anyway, all of the grease from the meat drains out through the holes in the foil. The sliced meatloaf looks so nice with all of the little peas, carrots and potatoes from the Vegetable Soup. I'll bet we all have our own special memories of our Mom's Meatloaf.
