THE ''.99 CENT ONLY STORE'' IS NOTHING LIKE A DOLLAR GENERAL NOR A DOLLAR TREE.........IT IS SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

Near me..we have dollar general... and dollar tree... both stores are OK.. I have gotten a few food items.. but not much... When I have to bring my daughter skating in Frederick Maryland... by Wal Mart there is a dollar store... Not sure if it is general or tree... but they have a frozen food section. To me, the food looks "old" so I would not buy it. However, I do buy boxed and canned goods without hesitation.

We have one not far from here, and I've bought things like cleaning products, candy, straws, paper, pencils, etc., but never food. Interesting about the cookbook using only ingredients bought there. Thanks for sharing!

    > Cin, we have 99 cents stores all over the place. There's even one about 3 minutes, walking , next to my house. Some are better than others....some have junk that's not even worth 99 cents! Sometimes the stuff is more than 99 cents , but some things are a good deal. I like to buy plastic straws, gift bags and some of Tyler's pens, pencils, folders, paper there.
    > Dollar Tree is my fav. and they have a freezer section but no fresh fruits or fresh meats....maybe hot dogs. I 've never seen one that has everything as far as groceries go. You never what they'll have and what they won't.
    > We could get wine at the Pick-n- Save, now it's called Big Lots. I haven't been there in a long time. 99 cent stores are fun!:)

Yes, we have Dollar Tree and Dollar General and Big Lots.....but none of them are .99 cents for everything in the store.

Nothing around here has .99 cent bottles of wine...it would be nice to get some for cooking.....since I don't drink, I hate to pay a big price for something to just cook with.

Here is one of their web sites: Advertises nothing over .99 cents
    http://www.99only.com/

Looks almost like a Wal Mart Superstore or any other Grocery

We have those stores here but I don't buy any kind of food from them aside from candy. I think they have some frozen foods but the one thing I always get from Dollar Tree is this toilet bowl cleaner called "The Works."

Hey, to those of you living in areas (such as CA) that have these stores.......do you shop at the ''99 Cents Only Stores'' ???

I saw a segment on this today on the RR show....she had a gal on their that wrote a ''99 Cents Only Cookbook'' of items she buys and cooks from the store...spices, wines, meats, canned-veggies as well as fresh-veggies and fruits..etc.

We do not have these stores in my area...we have those stores called ''Dollar Store'' or ''General Dollar''....but not everything (nor much of anything) is a dollar!!! They have a few canned foods, spices, milk, peanut butter...NO meats, fresh veggies, fruits or wines.

As of January 22, 2009, it operated 282 retail stores comprising 199 in California, 48 in Texas, 24 in Arizona, and 11 in Nevada. The company was founded in 1965 and is based in the City of Commerce, California.
