It doesn't include hunting "moose" & baking it into a cake, THAT'S for sure!!! hahaha  It's a white cake, with chocolate mousse (pudding-like, but lighter & fluffier) filling between 3 layers. Icing is a sugary vanilla whipped frosting!! Wish I could post pictures, but I'm not doing something right! Tried posting a picture of our Christmas tree, and our mantle last night, but pictures are NOT showing! Hmmmm.................

The dinner was fabulous. I actually ended up having the main course, and dessert at my house. I served a honey baked ham, asparagus casserole, Stacy's Fruit salad. Others brought salad, squash casserole, meatballs. Of course there were condiments, tea, chocolate mouse cake, chocolate cups we poured different liqueur into...YUM!!!
We then enjoyed sipping champagne by the Christmas tree playing the Chinese gift exchange, then talking & visiting until close to 1:am! Happy festive times!

DJ.. it was 29.99 at BB&B and if you factor in the coupons that are always arriving in the mail..if you hit it right you can get it for under $20. I've been to many Bar Mitzvah's where they have had this.. My son wants it for his.. I said no.. I've seen wedding dresses ruined.. I don't want to see a suit ruined..LOL...
Also.. I always thought I was a twin?? Long lost sister?? LOL.. Happy Thanksgiving.

WOW, a bigger tabe in deed!!! Momma always said I get caught up in the moment! True, true!! I just want to make EVERYTHING! I checked this recipe out & it looks so yummy!! But, my menu is planned, & with 5 desserts already in the making I (sadly) must file this for another day.
Thanks so much for thinking of me, when you think 'trifle"! Since I'm already known as "The Queen Mother" of my family empire( it's true, I have the plaque & mug to prove it..lol), maybe I could be....are you ready?.....
"Trifle Queen" for a day!!! YEA...I can see it now.......what will I wear.....

Momof3, I too have been @ parties/celebrations, weddings & the like with huge chocolate fountains. Though I'm not an avid chocolate fan (shhhh...I know that's blasphemy, huh) purchasing one (especially @ BB&B price) would be a great investment. My youngest daughter could use it when she has her get-togethers with her youth girls (she & hubby are Youth Pastors). My daughter-in-law could use it when she has baby or wedding showers, Bunco, & the like!!! It could be money well spent, for sure! Thanks for idea!

I was in Bed and Bath and they sell the Chocolate fountain now. You can have fruits,marshmallows on skews and all kinds of other yummy's on plates. The fountain is only about 40 dollars. I have been to many formal affairs that have had huge chocolate fountains. My feeling is.. you can have chocolate as an appetizer.. It's never to early in the meal to have dessert |

I second the fondue love!
If you are going to get a fondue pot, don't go for the ones with the fire under them...the heat is just too uneven. What I got was the electric kind and it works great!
Not only is it aces for making fondue, but it's amazing for melting chocolate for dipping. I think it sees more use for that than anything else.

Janet, LOVE the fondue idea, and you're right about retro, but nowadays retro is IN!! Fun and easy, and a good way to intro the idea to anyone who hasn't "been there before".
So many great ideas here I'm thinking of scrapping my original Thanksgiving appy plan and going with the ideas here!

Penelope, history definitely repeats itself, eh? I received a fondue for chocolate many moons ago. Never used it, so gave it way. Then recieved another about a year ago, as a Bunco gift. Been playing with this Bunco group over 17 years!!!

d.j. You know that saying, something like " what goes around comes around" I remember in my 20's how fondue parties were the rage. My son got married last year and guess what was on their gift list--fondue set. Seems like its back in vogue again so I like Janet's idea a lot.
