David was right on the money! I asked my friend about her buckeyes and she said she uses a little parafin to make sure that the chocolate doesn't get runny. Shan

Meryl, I've never made Buckeyes before but my friend who lives across the street does them every year and hers are PERFECT! I will ask her how she does it and get back to you. ~Shan

Parifin wax works great for these. (1 part wax to 3 parts chocolate). No it doesn't change the flavor, yet I've never made them without the wax. You could also try rolling some in shredded coconut or powdered sugar instead of adding the wax to the chocolate. Waxing Poetic about Buckeyes

I love making buckeyes as part of my christmas cookie adventures but the coating is never hard enough and it always winds up melting at the slightest touch or waft of warm air. I've heard of using parafin to make the chocolate less melty but I've never tried it. Has anyone ever used it and does it change the flavor at all? Let me know if you know! Meryl
