BWAH David the name for that recipe is sooo funny! I don't think I've had oyster crackers but I know I've seen them. I usually use Saltines, the regular ones for soup. Of course I go for unsalted or low salt versions. -- Worries go down better with soup. ~Jewish Proverb

We belonged to a beer club that met once a month at a pub and we got to taste each other's beers. I worked at a brew shop for awhile. The club wasn't as fun as it sounded..... some of the people were quite snobby, unfortunately. Then , when I had Tyler that kind of got put on the back burner. My hubby loves making pale ale....he makes a really good Sierra Nevada clone. He also make killer fermented cranberry juice/wine. David, these sound great too. The one thing I liked about the easy way the others are done......NO BAKING. You just keep turning them every 15 minutes to make sure all are covered with the mixture. Then I transferred to a lllllarge ziplock bag afterwards. They are sooooooo easy to make and are good with lots of foods or by them selves. I think they would be good with chili or even pasta -- Cin(\0/) God is so big He can cover the whole world with his Love ~~~~and so small He can curl up inside your heart~~~~

These sound great C(P)S.... I'd equate these to a recipe I have using the small Oyster Crackers. Dill anyone. Toasting lightly in the oven (like making Chex mix) kinda seals in everything. I think I'll try 'marrying' the two recipes for a whole new take on things. For what its worth..... Dilldoe's 24 oz small oyster crackers 1 pkg hidden valley ranch; dry mix 2 1/2 tablespoon dill weed 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1 cup oil 1 teaspoon lemon pepper 1 dash red pepper Mix all ingredients together, except crackers. Put crackers in a LARGE shallow pan. Pour 1/2 of mixture over and stir to coat. Put in a 250°F oven for 10 minutes. Pour remaining mixture over and stir to coat. Return to 250°F oven for 10 minutes. Remove and stir thoroughly. Let cool and serve. Note: the size of the crackers do make a difference. The new larger size "oysterettes" are not a good candidate for this dish. With fond memories of: Boo (Boench) Witt, Manning SC Yield: 12 servings -- ....... eat mo' grits

> Hey I bet you can use this for popcorn as well. How about sprinkling parmesean cheese on saltines as well? Hmm what else can we put on them? Garlic powder? Taco seasoning? Now the brain gears are turning and I'm coming up with crazy stuff, lol! > > --MommyMo > Worries go down better with soup. ~Jewish Proverb Mom....funny you mentioned additions. Today when I made these I used the Fiesta Ranch Dressing Mix instead of original ranch dressing mix......that way I did not have to use the 2-T red pepper flakes......I just sprinkled a few from the bottle, probably not even 1-T.;o) Then I sprinkled parsley, dill weed, cilantro and garlic powder over all of it. ALSO...I sprinkled everything over the crackers BEFORE pouring the oil over them. I just figured it would be better to go on last instead of first..............turned out great!!! They are still a bit HOT for me......next time I'm leaving off the red pepper flakes all togehter. I to think parmesean cheese would be great on these. -- Cin(\0/) God is so big He can cover the whole world with his Love ~~~~and so small He can curl up inside your heart~~~~

On our trip this weekend (went to Hermann, MO. to the German Oktober Festival) some of us took snacks to share, and I got a ''new to me'' recipe from a friend and want to share it with you. We went up their on Friday morning and got back home around 4:30pm today. Spiced Saltines 1 box Saltine Crackers (premium wheat) 1 pkg dry ranch dressing mix 2T red pepper flakes (the kind you sprinkle on pizza) 1 1/3 C canola oil (very important, do not use any other kind of oil) Place saltines in a large enough square\rectangle Tupperware container to hold the whole box of saltines...standing up on end. Pour the 1 1/3 C canola oil evenly over all, sprinkle ranch dressing over all, and sprinkle the red pepper flakes over all. Place lid on (burp container) and shake carefully (as to not break saltines).....turn container over every 15 minutes for 1 hour. Enjoy, Everta These were a bit HOT for me (you know my tender tongue), so I'm going to cut down on the red pepper flakes when I make them and may add a few other ingredients to experiment a little....;o) -- Cin(\0/) God is so big He can cover the whole world with his Love ~~~~and so small He can curl up inside your heart~~~~
