Your posters look great. Just this past year I got a bulletin board to share with Boxtops, which has traditionally shown Boxtops totals by class for their contests. Instead of the earlier bar graphs, that's now done with items for each class (all shells for undersea theme, ships for pirate theme, etc.), with the teacher's name and the current total on each.

I'm still thinking, but if I go with a similar approach, I'll use Goldfish, soup cans or bowls, or apples like the new LFE design.

    Michelle,
thank you. I cannot take full credit since if you look at previous thread the idea was Kelly's, but thank you just the same.
I'll deffinitely post the new poster when & if I get it done this year... pretty busy & hopefully will be racking in the labels now & be SOUPER busy.. lol
Our school is Pre K - 8.. small community. 1 class per grade even in the upper middle school grades. This was originally a "unwise" pick for a school when we first moved here however the school has an oustanding academic program & was rated in the top 5 schools in Arlington for it's small stature. Now we see a HUGE advantage of th esmaller school.. 1st the upper grades are required to help the younger students, teaching them responsibility & importance of role modeling. 2nd it's a Close knit school. All the parents get along great & are helpful in last minute situations. This is awesome since traffic around here can be horrible at times. We are less then 200 student school....
& enrollment is down.. just very expensive to live in this area...
    Thanks again,
    Colleen

    Colleen,
Just had to tell you that I love your poster. Your next idea also sounds great. When you do that poster please post it I would love to see it. By the way, I noticed on your poster that your school has pre-k through 8th grade. If you do not mind me asking, how small is your community? Our area keeps growing, like a wild fire. We have k-3rd grade in our building then combine with another school for the rest of the grades, but our school district is large.

I have been a Coordinator for 4 years for the 3 schools in our town. At the beginning of my second year, the Principal of our 2 primary schools (K-2) declined a contest between classes or grades but asked me to create a poster to track progress toward the goal for each school. At the end of the year we have a party for all students to celebrate achieving the goal. For that year, I drew a soup can on a sheet of poster board and traced the Campbell's logo onto the can. I also drew pencil lines for increments of the goal and my youngest child (preschool at that time) helped to color in the can with red marker as we reached each level. This year, since my daughter is in Kindergarten & I am working part-time, I designed a "Stack the Cans" poster using the label fronts which are no longer submitted. Each can has a value of 100 points or 200 points (depending upon the goal at the school) and as we collect points I track them on an excel spreadsheet and glue more cans onto the poster. The posters are displayed near the office so any visitors to the school and parents dropping off or picking up can see our progress.

so glad that I stumbled across this forum! I will try to get a
similar project going. You are really lucky if you have a
assistant coordinator, I don't so i have to work very hard, I
do find it rewarding to do the stuff for my school! THANKS
FOR THE GREAT IDEALS ,I WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT
    GOES.Beth!!!

    Susan,
Ok so I FINALLY completed my poster.. sigh.. I had a hard time with football field (not knowing the sport doesn't help
:(....... ) Bit I Love the idea of Colored Fish... So I might do a fishing contest poster... next go around.. now thats a sport I know.
I wanted a poster with laminate so that I could use it again & again.. In Case I do not have time to create a tracker....
so this is what I did.. It is very similar to yours, I hope you do not mind...very similar...one difference is I color a bowl & you colored a can.. :)

Mine is a soup bowl that is laminated to track our collection progress, with a can of Tomotoe Soup being poured into it.
I chose Tomato so that as our numbers increase I could color in more soup in the bowl in a red marker.
I also did the bowl sitting on a table, with 9 spoons laid across. A spoon for each grade & labeled them "Team + teachers name" I laminated all the spoons & used velcro to attatch to th table. I also have 3 pieces of velcro in the bowl for the class winners for the month. In the mean time the slots are filled with 3 extra spoons I created & wrote a phrase for encouragement.
I also did Goal total & YTD & the "Souper Class" photo slot.
This will be our first month, Nov thru Dec with this poster so hopefully our collections increase.
I haven't made the trophy yet but will shortly. I already saved an empty can. Ddid you fill it with sand or anything to give it a little weight?
    Thanks a Bunch.
I'll post a picture of our poster & submit When I get a picture.. I forgot before I took to school.
Thank you again for the wonderful Ideas.. I already have an Earth Day Poster Brewing.... but it will not be so ellaborate as this one...

    Colleen,

Here's the links again (MS Word file - makes the label for trophy) and photo of completed trophy - I posted on an earlier thread somewhere but I know they get buried sometimes. Yes, I used a real can - the "family size" I think. Just carefully took off the lid, emptied and cleaned, painted gold, then reglued lid on. Printed label on glossy photo paper and attached with glue and tape. Base is from craft store - wooden plaque painted gold - used hot glue and craft glue to affix can to base.

RE: Your football field idea - our local newspaper had a photo of a very similar idea that a school was doing for their BoxTops kickoff. It looked like they created a large field on paper (two endzones, yard lines marked - ie, an aerial view). Each class had a football that started in one endzone, and it appeared that each time a class brought in a certain # of BoxTops (20?), their football would be advanced ten yards down the field toward the goal line. Unfortunately, paper is a small local and they have nothing posted online that I can share.

I was also thinking about doing something like this...thought that perhaps I might use the Goldfish clipart instead of footballs for each "team" - will try to change the color of the fish in one of my graphics programs. Also, the kids love it when you label something "Team Smith" instead of "Mrs. Smith's class." It's just words but they really get into it!

Another fun idea to tie into football is to have a "Souper Bowl" contest - we do this every year in January and announce the winning "teams" (classes) on the Friday right before the Super Bowl. I keep my eye out all year for football-related prizes - pencils, pennants, etc - last year a local store donated 30 promotional team photos of the Steelers! You never know what you'll find...

    Kelly,
I love your poster & trophy idea...
I may use the trophy idea... it's a "mass" item for them to cherish. How did you go about getting it made? Is that a real Can?
My idea is this, though I have yet to do it.
Create a poster of a Football field with a kicker at one end and an end goal at the other.
Each Grade will get a Football & they will be placed on the board according to to the Labels collected.
I am trying to figure out the best way to do this.
I orginally was going to do a Bowling theme, "bowling for soup" but I figured the children can better relate to football.
    :)

    Hi All,

My co-chair and I had a heck of a time brainstorming poster ideas this year for our school to show the monthly collections. We both inherited the job this year and last year's poster was something non-memorable b/c no one could tell us what it was(!) and we couldn't find it. So, finally we came up with some ideas and feel the design came out pretty well. I'm posting our poster outcome and would love to see other postings sharing more ideas.

We used the clip art off the Campbell's website to blow up two images of the soup can - one in B&W (84cents at OfficeMax) and one in Color(~$4.00). The B&W one is already on the poster and then each month we cut an appropriate sized strip of the color one to put up over the top of the B&W one. This is our thermometer showing how we're meeting our goal. BTW, the color strip showing in the attached photo is not the appropriate size yet to match the YTD number. Gotta update that.

Every month, we award a winner in each grade for the most collected labels (we don't differentiate b/w 5pt and 1pt - a label is a label). Each grade winner gets a spoon in the bowl on the poster. Every month the overall winning class is awarded the Golden Soup Can Trophy (thanks for the idea Susan!). We take a photo of the class with the trophy and put it on the poster and in our monthly school newsletter. All winners (grade and overall) get a certificate to hang outside their classroom door in the hallway - thanks Megan for the certificate!
