Viv, please let us know ASAP about the sex of your grandchild, we need to know! I feel for your friend (and for you!) - it's HARD being so far away from a grandbaby! I especially feel for the Daddy of your friend. We may not think about it much as we go about our daily lives, but that's the kind of sacrifice the members of our Armed Forces and their families make on our behalves that DON'T make the newspapers or an HBO special. Can any of us imagine literally missing out on years' worth of our own children's or grandchildren's lives? Please tell them all from me that I am so, SO very grateful for their service and their sacrifice, and will keep them all in my prayers. On a MUCH sillier note, you all are too kind - and I mean it! I wish I could claim to have planned out the good manners thing, but I think I stumbled on it by accident one day when he told me I looked pretty b/c my daughter and I were having a "princess day" (we were playing around and dressed up in pretty dresses, hair, makeup, etc). I told him it was good manners to compliment a lady and he took it to heart and told every woman he saw for the next week how pretty she looked. He REALLY liked the attention he got from THAT and started asking me what ELSE is good manners... so in a sense I've created a monster - but I suppose it could be worse. And don't kid yourself - the same child is also fascinated with how many parts of his body he can use to simulate a certain natural function that all males find hysterical. He also just this moment announced proudly to me that he had become a MAN! because he's clogged up the toilet... I'll have to make a mental note to speak to my husband about which priorities he's emphasizing. My husband has a really warped sense of humor. Gibber

G-d Bless ya GIbber! No reason in the world every1 shouldn't be teaching their boys manners and respect such as this! My husband still opens the door for me everytime. He always taught our son, (by example) to treat women with the same respect you would your mom. And our daughters told their boyfriends how they wanted to be treated. So both son-in-laws do the same!

You guys are too cute playing match maker before we even know the sex. I should know within a week if it's a boy or girl. Leslie, it's good to see you. Somehow I missed you had such young kids. My friend has a 9 month old grandson that lives several states away so they don't see each other often. The grandson's dad just found out he is going to be stationed in Japan for 3 years. I guess I won't complain about the 8 hour drive to see mine.

LOL Gibber! My son comes home every day talking about his girlfriend-actually 3 girlfriends! He likes the ladies! He told one of them that if they get married she has to take his last name , so he asked her if she liked "Fulk" (our last name). He's too funny! It's nice your son has such good manners! -- Jennifer "Every Saint Has A Past, Every Sinner Has A Future" -- Edited by 2864590 at Oct 22, 2009 5:46 PM PDT

Wow, Gibber, that's excellent. Sure is a change from the kids (and even grown men!) of today where I have had more little boys and grown men let doors slam in my face or push past me to get ahead of me or through a door or whatever in front of me. No to mention on the road everyone acts like it's important to get in front of someone else (not realizing that someone's *always* in front of you on a road?). I sure appreciate your teaching your son some lovely manners! -- Worries go down better with soup. ~Jewish Proverb

I can see I'm not going to be able to compete - my daughter is going to be 9 (going on 21 - much too old for the gents here) but since her Daddy has already declared she's not allowed to date until AFTER she's married I think that's a moot point. I tried to tell him he was being ridiculous, and he's willing to concede... but I suspect every one of her first dates will come to the door to find that Daddy just happens to be cleaning his entire gun collection that evening. My son is 6 and is entranced with good manners, although that is backfiring on him at the moment. He captivates "older" women when he offers to pull out a chair or hold a door open or says, "after you" to a lady before getting on an elevator - but it is COMPLETELY lost on the little gals on the playground! He doesn't seem to mind though, and thinks the girls his age are icky anyway (thank Goodness!!!).

I'm glad you posted Viv!!! We have missed you here! I can't wait to see pictures of your new grandbaby when s/he arrives. If it's a girl....do I have the perfect boys for her... my great nephew Jett. He was born in August. Or his brother Jaggar who is almost 5. See you at the wedding in 25 years

Wow, Viv! Congratulations! I'm so glad you popped in to say hello. I can imagine how excited you are about your new grandbaby to be - what a thrill!! My bean dip is ridiculously easy to prepare. I take a can of refried black beans (I like the kind with a hint of lime), a cup or so of shredded cheese (cheddar, colby-jack, jalapeno jack, whatever you like), and some enchilada sauce (I never end up measuring this), and mix it all together then spread it into a pan. Sprinkle more cheese over the top and then bake in a 350° oven until it's hot and bubbly. (I have also used a glass pie plate and heated it in the microwave with fine results.) After it's warm, you can dollop on sour cream, sprinkle with diced onions or sliced green onions, olives, sliced peppers, or add just about anything you think sounds good. We even use this to stuff burritos with in a pinch. -- Lisa

YAY!!! Viv, congrats, I am so happy for you!!! I'm doing a happy dance too! I'm also anxiously waiting for that bean dip, folks. I think we should take that and the margaritas over to Viv's and celebrate right! Gibber (Leslie)
