Camilla, you write recipes? That is quite an achievement. I really have no talent at all for creating new recipes, at least not "real" ones. I consider tweaking recipes not quite the same. I just don't have that level of skill so I truly envy your ability.

    Hi Bob,

As someone who develops and writes recipes for a living, I REALLY appreciate your persepctive. It really helps me to hear how a recipe instruction comes across to a new cook. Perhpas I can vet some of my future recipes through you in the future!

Take care and keep posting! Constructive criticism is a great thing in my humble opinion.

    Cheers,

    Camilla

Robert, most times how the ingredients (meat, veggies, etc.) are to be cut or whatever are written in the ingredients part and then not repeated in the directions. For example-
4 chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces,
    1 onion, diced,
    2 cloves garlic, minced,
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) stewed tomatoes, undrained,
    etc.
Those kinds of things are usually written in the ingredients part so look there first then read the directions part.
Don't worry , you're learning.:) I think it's great you're cooking and not just buying fast food.

Yes, this is the one. I got confussed because the directions to cut up the steak are in the ingredients list, not in the directions where I would have expected.

Well...even if it is not his recipe.. I just brought a bag of fresh veggies for stew at Wegmans...and wasn't in the mood to make my regular beef stew.. I think I'm going to try it in this recipe.. sounds like it would be a nice warm dinner... I am so looking forward to spring and dining outdoors!

Here's the recipe I got when I looked up "Shortcut Beef Stew".

    1tbsp. vegetable oil
1 pound boneless beef sirloin steak 3/4 "thick, cut into1" cubes
1 can (10 3/4 oz.) Campbells condensed tomato soup (regular or 25% less sodium)
1 can (10 1/2 oz. ) Campbells condensed french onion soup
    1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 bag (24 oz.) frozen vegetables for stew (potatoes, carrots, celery)

Heat oil in a skillet. Add beef and cook until browned and juices evaporate, stirring often.
Add soups, Worcestershire and vegetables. Heat to a boil. Cover and cook over low heat 10 min. or until vegetables are tender.

Tip; Substitute 5 cups frozen vegetables (carrots, small whole onions, cut green beans, cauliflower, zucchini, peas or lima beans )for frozen vegetables for stew.

    Was this the recipe, Robert?

    Hi Robert!
I try really hard to write my recipes out so everyone can understand them, but we all make mistakes. If you have a question about something-just ask! We'd love to answer!

Hi Bob, the only recipe i can find by Campbell's for Shortcut beef stew calls for the beef to be cut into chunks, therefore "stirring" is appropriate.
Why don't you post the recipe so we can check it out.
    Penny.

I learned a long time ago the the best teachers are those who have just learned the subject. By that, I mean that experience teachers / cooks, forget some important details that less experienced people don't know about.

As an example, I was looking at the recipe for Shortcut Beef Stew.
It says, "heat oil in skillet, put in steak, stir." How do you "STIR" a steak? Pehaps it would be a good idea for the editors to have new cooks read and maybe even attempt to prepare the recipes from the way they are written.

Now I admit, I am "just a man", be we cook too.
Give us a break and a recipe should be step by step instructions that any idiot or MAN can follow.

    "Thanks Ladies.
