I appreciate the corroboration, Penny. I had forgotten just how young sweet little Hannah is for a brief while. It's so hard to watch a little baby suffer so I really feel for Angela's situation. -- -- Lisa

If your not nursing her suggestion to dilute is great also. Hope you take her advice because it's excellent. -- ....A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand...

I found something on yahoo answers that said a cordial is a stronger and maybe flavored sort of juice and can but doesn't always necessary contain alcohol. Juice is just pure juice. -- -- Lisa

Angela, what other kinds of foods is she eating, or is she eating any solids yet at all? Is she on cereal? Does she like other fruit or juices? My kids both liked veggies better than fruits because they seemed to find them too sweet, I think. Maybe if you dilute it with water she would stand a better chance of drinking it. It may be too strong undiluted as well, like prune juice. I've never tried it myself so I have no idea what to expect. If you're nursing, she might get some benefit from any blackberries/juice you ate as well. I don't know what else to suggest since she's still pretty little. -- -- Lisa

I'm curious as to how Hannah's doing as well, Angela. I hope there is relief for the reflux; it can be dreadfully uncomfortable. I made "my" muffins again yesterday. All I had on hand for the topping was Gold-n-Soft margarine, so I decided to try it and report back. I had no trouble incorporating it into the sugar mixture and it held together pretty well. I noticed that if I had kept working it any further it would have started melting and make the topping kind of weird, so I quit when it was about the size of pea gravel. It sat nicely on top of the full muffin cups and baked up nicely, although I noticed it didn't spread as it baked to cover the entire muffin top and there were spaces where the muffin could be seen between the bits of topping. They still taste delicious though. My husband doesn't like blackberries due to the seeds, so I just used the frozen blueberries I had on hand. I'm still anxious to try the blackberries pretty soon though. -- -- Lisa

Angela, I look forward to your follow up story. I don't know anyone else that has use blackberry juice for this reason. I am always amazed what folks figured out on their own a hundred years ago.

I didn't know this about blackberries. Sorry to hear about Hannah's reflux, Angela Do you sit her up after she eats? I think the docs recommend 30 minutes. Reflux is no fun; I have it and it's just a bummer

You're welcome, Angela. I hope it helps. How old is Hannah again, and are you nursing? If she can't handle it, you could try taking it yourself and see if it helps her "through" you. Just in case it causes a worse problem than the intestinal upset she's already having. Just a thought; feel free to tell me to mind my own business. -- -- Lisa

Oh thank you Lisa! I bought blackberries today and I'm going to make the juice and give my Hannah a little bit of it to see if it helps her tummy issues! We're battling colic and reflux around here and I'm to the point I'll try about anything! LOL -- ~*~Angela~*~

I'm having trouble with the 'firm' butter I've been using of late. The 'liquid' turned out ok but totally funky. Maybe the 'room temp' butter is what I need... trial and error... trial and error.... thanks. -- ....... eat mo' grits

While I was looking for that recipe and for information on giving blackberry juice to a baby for colic (I was curious) I found a fantastic list of homeopathic and food-oriented recipes to use to aid in treatment or relief of a variety of maladies. You can look at the whole list here. It does mention a blackberry cordial for relief of intestinal upsets. Very interesting! -- -- Lisa
