DJ, I'm planning on learning to text. I have to read the book ( and I mean book!) on my new phone. I chose the pink Motorazr V3XX. It is the prettiest phone I've ever seen. It's really clear when people call and the camera is great. I already bought my ringtone and graphics....fun ! -- Jennifer "Every Saint Has A Past, Every Sinner Has A Future"

PS~~ I don't text ALL day in the classroom! My, my....what I mean is it's the fastest way (along with email) my family can get in touch with me. It doesn't take away from my tending to my students...AT ALL! Our school phone system is such that any outside calls go to my voice mail, straight away. I hope I've made myself clear! PSS -- I also cannot share what we teachers have in our Thermos!

You guys that aren't "texters"...IMO, are missing out! It's a lot of fun. It's a quick & easy way for me to walk around my classroom, communicating with family or friends. I do it, all the while tending to student's questions or needs. When I get a text, a sound like a tingling bell goes off. My students just say....."It's the Computer Fairy!" LOL

I have a Virgin Mobile Marbl right now. Target had it on sale for $12.99! I lost my old VM phone (the Snapper, which I got as a gift about 3 years ago). The Marbl is really basic -- I don't text, I don't call anyone hardly ever, it's really just for emergencies for a phone on hand, and it's pay as you go. I spend maybe 15 dollars every couple of months with it. I am not big on the landline phone, either and HATE call waiting. Me and phones just don't go together. So the VM phones work for me.

Jennifer, There are a couple of Phones I would recomend; Sony Ericsson Z310a and LG CE110. Both are free and simple. They both display the time on the outside. The LG has a larger time display. I hope this helps.

We have several styles of phones at our house based on our individual needs. My only requirement is always that the phone display the time on the OUTSIDE so I don't have to flip it open to find the time. ~Shan

Scott, I have a Nokia phone and it's about 4 years old. My hubby has a plan with AT&T and he just updated to the LG Shine , so I need to choose one from AT&T(formerly Cingular). As far as calling people it's all local....my mom, sister, and mostly my husband. He likes to check on me while I'm walking my son back and forth to school to make sure were o.k. That's about all I use it for....and to see how many minutes we have left until the school bell rings-lol! -- Jennifer When baking, follow directions. Jennifer, I switched from a fee per month to pay as you go. It depends on how many min. you use per month and what network your friends are on. I went from over 50 bucks a month (with all the taxes) to costing under 10 bucks a month. Yes I spent 30 bucks on the phone, but the first month it was a positive. This happened a few months ago, so the info should be curent. Who do you have now and what are the network/s are the people you call on? It makes a big difference.

Hi Jennifer, I remember being in a phone store with my partner just killing time, I looked over the entire display... they had a 'basic' phone for $29. I made way for a salesman and his customer... couldn't help but overhear.... he wanted just a dang phone, no bells, no whistles, 'all I ever do is call someone every now and then', 'I want the cheapest thing ya' got that will make phone calls'. When the salesman assured the customer that the $99 phone was the cheapest no frills... and excused himself to go in the back and complete the 3-yr contract.... I politely pointed out the $29 model on display. Is it my fault that his customer was 'gone' when the salesman reappeared? Good luck in your quest. -- ....... eat mo' grits

This is off topic, but I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather ask! My b-day's coming up and I desperately need a new cell phone. I don't do much with mine, except talk to people and look at the time( I use it as my watch-lol). I mainly have one in case of emergencies. I'm not a texter or anything fancy. What kind do you all have and are happy with? I was looking at the Motorazr v3xx or the LG Shine. Any input would be helpful. Thanks! -- Jennifer When baking, follow directions.
