It's great to hear from you Meryl! I've never used a fresh pumpkin to make a pie either. Thanks for the link. -- Lisa

They came from a friends garden. They were huge too! I've never heard of a sugar pie pumpkin. Where do you get them? Good advice! Thanks for the info and the website.

What kind of pumpkin do you have? Many people make the mistake of thinking that all pumpkins bake alike...this is not the case. The jack-o-lantern pumpkins that people buy for halloween tend to be more watery and bland. You need something like "Sugar pie pumpkins" in order to bake. I found this web site that talks about making pumpkin pie from fresh pumpkins: http://www.pumpkinpatchesandmore.org/pumpkinpie.php They say that you can use a jack o'lantern pumpkin by adding more sugar and using the food processor more to get it to the point where it will make an ok pie. I would suggest baking a small custard dish of the filling before putting it in your pie crust if you choose to use the carving pumpkin just to see how it comes out. Hope this works out for you! PUMPKIN PIE FROM FRESH PUMPKIN

Has anyone ever used fresh pumpkin? I've tried in the past but it tends to be too soupy and doesn't set. Anyone have any ideas? I've got 3 1 gallon zip lock bags in the freezer full of pumkin puree. I'd hate to see it all go to waste.....
