Congratulations, Shan! That's a huge decision and you're doing really well. I'm so glad that you have finally found an answer. I've struggled with my weight ever since I hit puberty and I've tried various diets as well. Weight Watchers worked for me as long as I was able to get to the meetings and I had a great leader -- she left and I stopped losing weight, isn't that weird? I was just really hooked into her motivation methods and she as a leader helped me so much. I hated Jenny craig's food...I never got past induction on Atkins because I like carbs too much! But good luck with your continued journey toward better health. May 2007 be your best year yet

WOOHOO on the weight loss Shan!!!! ::::::Does the Snoopy Dance for Shan::::::::: Loosing weight is NOT easy, Im so proud of you! I had considered Lap Band several years ago when I weighed in at 225pounds. I was turned down because I was 5 pounds too light to make the "100pounds overweight" mark! Trust me, I considered gaining 5 pounds to be considered! lol My doctor talked me into trying Atkins since all the low fat diets had failed me. I was one of the lucky ones and Atkins was a lifesaver for me! Im now down to 130pounds and like you, feel like half the person I used to be! Wonderful feeling isnt it? Good luck on your continued weight loss in 2007! You can do it! -- ~Angela P.

This year it is my plan to continue my weight loss. In January of 2005 I began a life changing process. I began to pursue weight loss surgery. After years and years of being morbidly obese I began to realize that taking all of the weight off with weight watchers, Jenny Craig, LA weight loss, Atkins etc was just not working. My doctors agreed and in July, on my youngest sons 2nd birthday, I was given a second chance at healthy. To date I have lost 71 pounds. I feel like half of the person that I used to be and I never ever ever want to go backwards. It is my personal goal to continue to keep fast food OUT of my diet and that of my children, to continue cooking at home, and to continue trying new recipes so that we don't get bored and feel tempted to hit Ruby Tuesdays. On top of this, it is my goal to add MORE exercise into my day. ~Shan

Well, I really haven't given this much thought. I would have to say for myself, I would like to be able to exercise more like I did before getting married. Seems like now there is just not enough time. Since my husband needs to loose some weight, I would like to be able to cut down on the amount of food that I cook. This is going to be hard since I enjoy cooking sooooo much. I already have the dinner menus made out for this week and weekend. I am going to the grocery shortly to pick up everything.

This year I plan to cook more with my crock pot. I think I should also help Janet to like grits.

This year, I think its going to be to start working out more! Over the last few years, Ive managed to drop a good bit of weight, but Ive slacked in working out recently. I think the new year is a good time to get back to that! -- ~Angela P.

Janet, two years ago, a co-worker and myself decided to give up deep fried food for a year. Our motto was "Nothing deep fried in 2005". No french fries, chicken wings, chips, egg rolls etc. etc. etc. At first it was really hard, but after a few weeks, I didn't miss it at all. Okay, I really missed french fries, but I began to look forward to the salad I would order instead. I lost ten pounds that year and I think that I will try it again in 2007. I forgot to mention that in 2006 I went back to eating the fries, chicken wings, etc. and gained back 8 of the 10 pounds I lost. Good luck with any resolutions you make. -- Carol B.

I know, we're still in the heart of the holiday season, but has anyone given thought to food-related resolutions for the new year? Every year I resolve to entertain more, and it will be on the list again this year. Also, to try more new recipes (it's so easy to stick with the tried-and-true that friends and family always request). Everyone here at the Table has already helped with that - I have lists of new ideas, thanks to all of you. Hmm...cut back on chocolate? Learn to love grits? Maybe next year. ;-D
