Does anyone have pictures of their trick-or-treaters to post?
I tried to get a shot of my themed cookies, but the camera (which SO needs to be replaced) wasn't cooperating. I made some pumpkin-shaped cookies, and fun 'Scream" mask chocolate ones, with white frosting. • Janet

No one trick-or-treats here  We always get one bag of stuff just in case, but I end up eating it all myself. LOL  |

There aren't a lot of younger children in my neighbourhood, and the community encourages school-based Halloween gatherings - with the result being hardly any kids coming door to door.
Of course that doesn't mean it's not a good excuse to stock up on tiny chocolate bars, ideally just after Halloween, when they're on sale!
I was looking at the recipes for seasonal goodies at the Food Network and Martha Stewart sites, and of course here at Campbell's. Lots of fun ideas; I was looking at decorated cookies to take along to a lunch get-together later this week. Must get some orange food colouring! • Janet

Tyler is going to be a S.W.A.T. Team officer. What is everyone else going to be ? I have " It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown " t-shirt and lounge pants so I'll probably wear those!

I give out candy and lots of it! I separate it into 2 bowls-the chocolate candy bar bowl and the sweet/sour candy bowl. I let the kids choose if they want chocolate or sour candy. I also buy a big bag of the cheaper candy( Child's Play with the Tootsie Rolls) to mix in with the others so my candy will go farther. Since Halloween's on a Friday(  yea!) I'm thinking the trick or treating will go on longer.....I'm hoping! It 's our tradition that on Halloween, we order pizza for dinner because nothing can take me away from answering the door-lol! IF WE HAVE LEFT OVERS ON THE LITTLE DEBBIES I USE THEM IN THE HUBBY'S LUNCH BOX (I fix his lunch to take to work daily)......SO WE ALWAYS GET SOMETHING HE'LL LIKE, HIS FAV ARE THE HONEY BUNS.

Going a little off tangent here. What do you give out to trick or treaters? I tend to give out almond joy and mounds because... OK..don't laugh here..I'm allergic to coconut and I rather not have the left over candy in the house.
I remember when we first moved to this house I went through about 10 bags of candy. It's gone down considerably now that the neighborhood has grown. Kids tend not to come on cul-du-sac streets it seems.
Also when we first moved in we used to get "booed" A knock at the door..go to answer it...no one there but a huge bag full of treats. Your job was to do this to 2 people the next night. I think we got booed 5 or 6 times. It ended up being expensive. With my kids older now no one boo's us but it also seems like very few are doing it at all. I know the economy in my area is horrid. Living outside of Washington DC with it being a presidential election year people don't know if they will have jobs in January.

Ohhh, my kids would love the Eyeball tacos I'm sure. Anything "gross" they're all into! What IS it with gross stuff that kids love? LOL

THESE REMINDED ME OF THE ''EYE BALL' HALLOWEEN SALAD THAT TYLER LOVES SO WELL!!!!!!!! SOOOOOO CUTE. Spooky Eyeball Tacos 1 lb. ground beef 1 pkg. (1-1/4 oz.) TACO BELL® HOME ORIGINALS® Taco Seasoning Mix 12 TACO BELL® HOME ORIGINALS® Taco Shells 3/4 cup TACO BELL® HOME ORIGINALS® Thick 'N Chunky Salsa 3/4 cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream 1 can (2-1/4 oz.) sliced pitted ripe olives MIX meat and seasoning mix. Shape into 36 (1-inch) balls; place in 15x10x1-inch baking pan. BAKE at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes or until cooked through. Fill each taco shell with 1 meatball; drizzle with salsa. Top with 2 meatballs dipped in sour cream. Garnish with olives to make "eyeballs." NOTE: 1.) You have to have easy treats to make up for Halloween since we get so occupied making more than one dish and preparing for the party. They have over 100 Halloween recipes on creamcheese.com. If you need some new ideas, be sure to check that site out too. I love all these contributions, I can't wait for Halloween! |

Oooh that looks great Jennifer! Here is my Halloween contribution
Monster Munch
Ingredients
1 Cup Dry roast peanuts -- unsalted
1/3 Cup Butter or margerine
1 Pound Marshmallows
1/2 Cup Peanut butter
3 Cups Puffed rice cereal
1 Cup Apricots -- chopped
1 Cup Raisins
Directions
In a large bowl, combine cereal, apricots, raisins and peanuts.
In a microwave safe 13x9", melt butter and marshmallows on high for 2 minutes.
Stir; add peanut butter cook on high 2 minutes longer.
Stir until well blended, add cereal mixture to dish and toss until well coated.
Working quickly with greased hand, form into balls, using about 1/2 C mixture, per ball. If mixture begins to harden, cook on high for 30 seconds, or until softened.
If desired , mixture may be spread in unbuttered 13x9" dish and cooled and cut into bars.

I love making up snacks and treats with Halloween themes for parties. What recipes have you got planned for Halloween? Here's an easy appetizer idea from creamcheese.com. They are called "Ghosts". This is how they look: http://www.kraftfoods.com/images/recipe_images/Ghost.jpg 1 Tbsp. PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese Spread 3 RITZ Crackers 3 raisins, cut in half SPREAD cream cheese in ghost shape on top of crackers. ADD raisin pieces for the eyes. |
