    Baked Corn Dogs

    1 cup warm milk
    1 package yeast
    2 T oil + more for greasing
    2 T sugar
    1 cup corn meal
1 1/4 cup flour + more for dusting, kneading
    1 t salt
    1/4 t baking soda
9 hot dogs, cut in half (brats work well)
    1 egg, beaten
sesame seeds (optional but looks good)

Mix warm milk, yeast, oil, sugar and corn meal to form a paste, let stand for 10 min. to lit the yeast dissolve, sift flour, salt, baking soda into a bowl, add to corn paste and stir to form a dough. Turn out on a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes. Shape into a ball and place in a greased bowl and let rise for 1 hour.

In the meantime make little cuts into the hot dogs and fry them with a little oil ,to add a little brown on the sides. Let cool and then insert a wooden stick into each of them. If using raw worst cook until done.

Preheat the oven to 450 F.

Lightly oil a baking sheet or line one with parchment paper/aluminum foil and set aside. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide in 18 pieces. Roll each piece into a 10 inch rope and spiral wrap it around each hot dog. Make sure you tuck and press the edges to seal. Place on the baking sheet (I let them rise for 20-30 min. on the sheet) and brush with the beaten egg. Now sprinkle sesame and kosher salt and bake until golden brown and delicious, roughly 15 minutes.

You don't need to cut them in half if you don't want too. Just cut the dough into 9 or 8 pieces and roll into a rope to wrap around the cooked sausage or dog.

I love corn dogs!! I love this recipe! When I was a kid my favorite memories involve family trips to the State Fair or local amusement park and always the tradition was a corn dog and later cheese on a stick. I tried your recipe and I loved it! For the cheese on a stick, I used string cheese and it worked out GREAT! Thank you!
