I remember making these years ago when my kids were little... but we had them at home because they are top heavy. I think the pizza box idea is brilliant. I will pass it along to my neighbors though. We still have mom's night out about 4 times a year. It used to be every 4-6 weeks or so but life is so busy for everyone!

Gibber, They are fine under 450 (thinkFahrenheit 451) The pizza box needs to be folded and not glued. My other half would argue about the "BRILLIANT!! " part. I made my chicken rosemary in the crockpot and used a roaster instead of a frier, 4 hrs. later it was not done. So I loaded it with some potatoes and carrots and it is cooking overnight.

HI all, Scott, you're BRILLIANT!! The pizza box idea totally solves the top-heavy issue. I'd never have though of it - the box doesn't burn in the oven? I guess not, since you've done it in the past and didn't mention the unfortunate side effect of cleaning up water damage... excellent, thank you!!! And yes, a "dirty" martini has a little olive juice in it. Not olive OIL, mind you, olive juice from the jar. Because we all know that "extra virgin olive oil" is made from olives that don't even THINK about it. Gibber

What a fantastic idea! Using ice cream cones -- never woulda thunk it. Do they come out properly baked through and everything? This is something I will have to try because I absolutely love the idea of not having a pan to clean up (though I try to use liners most of the time but I don't have jumbo liners for bigger muffins and cupcakes etc.). Very great for kids, I bet they love it! Thank you so much for this idea and welcome to the "table"!! PS What is a "dirty" martini? -- Worries go down better with soup. ~Jewish Proverb

Gibber, Welcome to the table. It is a great idea, but keeping them up right can be a problem. I use a pizza delivery box with 12 x's cut into the top to fit the cones in and just bake with the box. (to keep them upright I dip the bottom of the cone in the cake mix before I push into the box) I have done it with waffle cones in the bottom of shoe boxes with holes cut into them. I'm sure you could do it with any light box, I just happen to have this at the time. -- Edited by 2598976 at Sep 27, 2009 12:46 AM CDT

Need to bring treats to school?

Hi all, I want to share the best idea I've heard in awhile when it comes to bringing cupcakes to school for birthday/bake sale/whatever. (Disclaimer: I totally stole this idea from my neighbor, whom I don't think posts here. But if she does, Love ya K... MEAN it!!). Instead of baking cupcakes in your tins or in the liners, use ice cream cones (not the waffle kind, but the "cake" cones that taste like styrofoam - you can get them at the grocery store). That's my personal opinion there about the styrofoam, btw... Anyway, just set them up either in your cupcake tins in place of the liners, or in a rectangular cake pan, then fill them with the cake mix like you would with cupcakes. Bake as directed for cupcakes. Be careful taking them out of the oven, they pop over the top like ice cream cones and are top heavy. Next, either decorate the top with icing or squirt icing down the center (I have one of those Pampered Chef icing squirter thingys) so it's like cream in the middle of a twinkie. Either way, the teachers love them, b/c there are no wrappers to throw away and (if you squirt the icing in the middle) there is minimal icing mess. I would NOT advise sending them to school on the bus with your child though - as I mentioned, they're top heavy. But I've always gotten thanks from the teachers for sending them b/c they're a nice treat for the kids and easy and mess-free for the teachers. Hope you like the idea! Gibber
