Barb, Dental Health Day would work. Here is another one: Our students collected pop tabs for a girl who is having two surgeries and her family will be staying at The Ronald McDonald house with the Childrens Hospital. The community got in on this one and their car trunk was filled with containers holding pop tabs.

I work in a Day Care and on Friday we are having Dental Health Day. We have a guest speaker coming in to talk to us. Does this count as a Labels for America program?

Our school regularly turns in one for our Annual Food Fight, a competition between classes to see who donates the most food items for our food drive. The second one is for our fire prevention monthly activities in October. We also have Field Days, our gym teacher puts it on like a mini olympics so the little kids are one day and the older kids another. When the older kids go out the little kids "sponsor fan" one of their teams. K classes may cheer for 4th G China or USA teams. So with those three we usually will use one of the assemblies about bullying or addictive preventions, as our last one. If we don't have an assembly that would qualify then we use the Library's Reading program. Hope this is helpful. Many of the things your school already does can qualify for these points. One other time during the spring we did a Dog vs Cat fight. Most of our grades only have 2 classes, one would be Cats the other Dogs and whomever turned in the most food or other items for a pet food drive to help the local humane society. We have already turned in all 4 sheets for the 2000 points. Good luck to everyone.

Thought I'd add a few suggestions for Labels for America points. Our school ran a Food Drive at Thanksgiving for the local food pantry. I submitted the form and have already received 500 points in our account. Also, we had a Toys for Tots drive in December. This form is with our principal for his signature. Just two examples of sharing and caring for our community!

Remember, it doesn't have to be from the list on the website. You can do your own as long as it fits in one of the caring, learning or sharing ares on the actually form. If you look back through your school newsletters and such you may find that you have already done enough projects to fill out 4 of the sheets and get the 2000 points.

Laura, Yes. Fire awareness counts towards the Labels for America bonus. Do not forget food drives, clothing drives, Fitness and nutrition, NEA's Read Across America, and more. I had found a whole list of different things that can be found from LFE web site, but I can not remember where it is located, I will look and repost. Found it. Look under Earn Bonus Points tab (on main page of LFE web site), then Labels for America programs. -- Edited by 3164183 at 01/14/2009 12:47 PM PST

At our school the lower grades (K-2) visit our local fire department. They also receive fire safety in all grades at the school from the fire department. Does this count towards the Labels for America bonus? Laura

Greetings I just wanted to mention that you can go to the website and get the forms to fill out where if your school has participated in various projects that you school can get 500 points per project up to 2000 points per year. Be sure to take advantage of this offer. Hopefully I have helped some of our new coordinator's. You may post here and I will respond to your post. Beth Farmer
