I'm a new coordinator this year, too, and starting the LFE program back up again after a few years (or more?). I took over as coord. with the Box Tops program as well, so I decided to combine the collection efforts of both programs with a competition between classes. The class that collects the most Labels and Box Tops combined by the end of the school year will get a reward party (BIG- food, balloons, stickers, etc. and possibly individual T-shirts with some sort of logo promoting both programs and our school). Our PTSO is sponsoring the reward party. I count every month (except Dec. and April when we have holiday breaks) and keep a visual track of progress with a large graph on the wall in the main hallway of the school. I've had reminders about collection day put on the monthly school newsletter, but I send my own newsletter every month (though it sounds like that would be discouraged for you). The first months were VERY slow with Campbell's collection, but at the last count, I had just as many UPC's as Box tops. It has finally caught on. I think next school year I will be able to run the programs separately. Good luck!

I noticed on one of the replies that your PTA wants minimal papers sent home. Our school is lucky enough to use a "Take it home Tuesday" folder. You may want to ask the principal or PTA about this program. Each Tuesday there is a copied form that has a box each for the teacher to send you notes or if you want to send them a note. They generate a standard box that the parents sign each week. So for the year there is a total of 3 pages. Nothing big but an open line of communication from parent to teacher or teacher to parent. The teacher form and any tests that need initialled by a parent are on side of the folder as "Please Return to school" on the other side of the folder it is labelled as "Keep at Home." This is where we place any notice from sports activity sign up notices or Parents Organization events and contests. This is very helpful for the K-2 grades, it help you a lot to keep up with what your child's teacher expects from them. As the kids get older 3-5 grades, there are generally less notes from the teachers but it is still nice to have all the memos from the school come once per week. Every school has different methods and I don't want to say ours is any better than others but this Folder is a great help in being on top of exactly what comes home with the kids. As a coordinator it is a great tool. We know that we have to have any memos in by the Friday before we want items placed in the folders. Another idea is to start an email list. Our parents organization does a lot of notifications via email with attachments. Since many parents now work and it is both parents this help those busy parents still feel included and up to date. Good luck and I hope this was helpful info for you.

Have you ordered anything yet with the points you have banked? They may change their mind about sending home reminders if you can show them how much you have saved them. For example: I was able to get quite a bit of playground equipment that otherwise would have had to come out of the PTO checkbook. I just stick all of the forms for the Labels For America in an envelope together and send them in. The address is at the bottom of the form. They go separate from the UPC's. As for suggestions, have you done any of the following: activities for Fire Prevention week last fall, do the children have to read a certain amount each night or participate in "Book It" from Pizza Hut, any collecting of items for a local food bank or shelter, a visit from a dentist this month for Dental Health month? If you look back at what activities the school has participated in this year you may be surprised at what will fit. Also, if you look thru early posts their is thread that may have more ideas on it. I too have not been able to find any bonuses using the zip code tool. Guess there must not be any here in New England. Hope some of this helps you out.

I have tried the zip code locate tool as well, and I do it every couple of weeks. I have had no luck. I have 3 out of 4 Labels for America write ups. I am trying to get one more. Does anyone how "how" to mail these in? I have put out 3 informational letters with products and my info. My PTA doesn't want colored paper used and minimal "handouts" sent out. I have about 2000 points to turn-in since I took over as coordinator in December. That is a huge improvement since our PTA began to do the program. I would love to learn some tricks to get more. Any help is greatly appreciated.

On the main page off LFE website there is a button for earn bonus points. Click on that button then on the new page there is a store locator link. Now every time I try to use this I never get any store in my area, even using surrounding zip codes, maybe there just isn't any promotions in my area. I have never done any contest, but it seems to help when I disperse reminders to send upcs in on half sheets of colored paper (so it stands out from other papers) to all the students to give to their parents. Good luck!

How do I find stores in my area that have promos? Any tips to start a contest within my school? Any help would help. My school has been a bumpy road for LFE. Not much gets turned in, SO I want to change that. I like doing it so far. My daughter and I have glued and glued for the extra points. We have already doubled collected points for the last 4 years. Thanks Jolene
