We recently put a float in our High School's Homecoming Parade. The top winner from each grade was able to ride the float - it was a trailer donated by a local company. I had classes make a poster that fit the theme of the parade and taped them to the trailer. Our PTO gave me $30 for candy so we can throw it to our school. It was a very cheap and easy contest. We received over 2,500 labels! I usually incorporate all items that we collect in the contests (box tops, campbell's, Tyson, Coke Rewards, etc.)

For Open House we came up with a couple of Campbell's prizes to be given away. We found them at Garage Sales over the summer. A small duffle bag filled with individual packets of Goldfish is First Place, a Ty Beanie Goldfish for second, and a Soup can bank for Third. Contest: Guess the number of Goldfish in the Fishbowl. Hope to make light blue jello and have the goldfish "swimming". We coated the goldfish so they do not absorb the liquid from the jello, and get all mushy. The sheets to write the guesses on also ask for an email address, that way we can send out reminders via email to collect points and ask relatives to collect too.

I thought it would be fun to start a thread where we could share contest ideas that have been successful in our schools. Please give the name of your contest, a brief description, and examples of prizes. I'll start with one! Contest - "March Madness - Pitt vs Penn State" - Students were asked to submit their LFE points in a baggie/envelope, and mark their team, Pitt or Penn State. Tallies were kept of total points for each team, and also which students contributed points and the amounts. The top-scoring two students from each team were the winning "MVP's" and received certificates, plus either a Pitt or Penn State folder (folders had been found on clearance for 50 cents each!) I made a score chart (MS Word) and posted in the stairwells, with weekly updates of the team's scores. This contest was a new one...and was very popular with all ages - even the teachers got into it!
