Doesn't it seem like those pop-ups have been in turkeys forever? It's difficult for me to remember when they weren't there. Does anyone recall when they started using them?

What a great idea, Jennifer!! I will have to try this on Thanksgiving. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun!

Ha ha, I love the turkey bowling story! Many years ago I used to bowl in a league and we always had "turkey shoots" at Thanksgiving. The bowlers who did the best that night won their Thanksgiving birds. I'm envisioning the birds set up for target practice now. LOL.

Hi Lauren, Giggling here, reading your post about changing the Thanksgiving tradition...One Thanksgiving, myself & some friends (who don't have family on this side of the Coast & didn't feel like spending $100 at the market just for the Bird), went to Chinatown & had a great dinner from column A & B, ha ha. Must admit, I missed the Turkey...but made up for it after. A funny story I'd heard on the news years ago was called Turkey Bowling. Around Thanksgiving-time, late at night, some employees of the market lined up bottles of plastic sodas like bowling pins, & tossed the frozen turkey down the aisle, to see how many strikes they could make. So...check your turkey for any bruises, lol.

Maybe it's time to trade in that Thanksgiving tradition for burgers on the barbie. Ha!

Lauren, You are not alone...seems like on Thanksgiving all the guys watch a game or go out & play basketball, while we baste & baste & baste. But, hey, I guess that's the American tradition....for now.

I think my brother, sis and I had our own little Thanksgiving tradition. We'd try to disappear for as long as possible so we didn't have to help out with the work. haha.

On Thanksgiving, my family had a contest to guess when the little pop-up timer in the Turkey would pop up. My kids would take everyone's guesses and gather 'round the oven, looking in the window (I usually managed not to trip over them, LOL). It was so much fun...and they never seemed to mind that they didn't win anything! All they got were bragging rights. Anyone else have silly traditions like that to share? Jenn
