I think broth is an excellent idea, but make sure it's unsalted or low sodium because Stovetop already has enough sodium in it to kill a horse!

That's a good idea Penny. I sometimes use broth instead of water for that too. -- Jennifer "Every Saint Has A Past, Every Sinner Has A Future"

If it's plain or your not sure, how about using chicken broth instead of water when you mix it up. -- ....A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand...

In Ct. there's pork, chicken, turkey and maybe cornmeal, not sure. I mostly buy chicken, goes pretty good with any quick casserole you want to make. Penny. -- ....A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand...

THANK YOU Penny!!! I have still got so much Velveeta here to use and this is a easy recipe for me to use! I actually have EVERYTHING here that I need to make this with! Well, I have regular stove top stuffing instead of the chicken kind, but it should be ok, don't you think?? -- ~*~Angela~*~

LOL It might have been a blend back in the day, but the stuff in the yellow box is definitey not a blend now. By the way, it does bother me more than a little bit that it's shelf stable and often sold on the shelves and not in the refridgerator case. It does make good mac and cheese though.

Velveeta is a lot like American cheese but milder in taste and it's shinier than American cheese. It's not a blend of cheeses. It melts very well but is very mild. I think it's almost tasteless. I use in in mac and cheese along with cheddar. I don't like it melted straight away. It reminds me of the goopy cheese stuff you get on nachos at ballgames. And it congeals when it cools which is another reason to use it in a mixture with real cheese. -- Edited by 3281306 at 01/29/2009 11:22 AM PST

Velveeta tastes like cheese but is MILK, WATER, MILKFAT, WHEY, WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, SODIUM PHOSPHATE, MILK PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, ALGINATE, SODIUM CITRATE, APOCAROTENAL (COLOR), ANNATTO (COLOR), ENZYMES, CHEESE CULTURE. Kraft american cheese is this MILK, WHEY, MILKFAT, MILK PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, SALT, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, SODIUM CITRATE, WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, SODIUM PHOSPHATE, SORBIC ACID AS A PRESERVATIVE, APOCAROTENAL (COLOR), ANNATTO (COLOR), ENZYMES, VITAMIN D3, CHEESE CULTURE. If you want real cheese buy real cheese, but these are both good on the palliate and I like both. When is the last time we all didn't have a fast food meal with tons of stuff we don't know what it is or a meal at a fav. restaurant that we have no idea of what they have added. Sorry to be on my high horse, but this thread is getting on my nerves. If you like it ok, if you don't ok. -- Edited by 2598976 at 01/28/2009 6:59 PM PST

> > Janet ,it is a blend of different cheeses......"Colby, Swiss, Cheddar blended all together" is how the jingle used to go, so it has a different tangy taste you don't get from just one kind of cheese, it has it's own distinct taste which is yummy. It also melts easier and creamier than regular cheese and the consistency is good. > > Velveeta cheese slices make the best grilled cheese sandwiches, although Kraft singles are awesome too. > > > > -- > > Jennifer > > > > "Every Saint Has A Past, > > Every Sinner Has A Future" > > Jen, I was trying to think of the best way to answer Janet's question but you came up with the perfect answer. > Penny. Too bad the answer isn't right. Velveeta is NOT a blend of cheeses. It's a processed cheese food product. Kraft even says so on their website.

Thank you, Penny. I'm putting Velveeta on my shopping list so I can give your casserole a try. Tyler will love it, I can already tell. I think I'll sprinkle some grated Parmesan on the top since I add Parmesan to almost everything-lol! -- Jennifer "Every Saint Has A Past, Every Sinner Has A Future" -- Edited by 2864590 at 01/27/2009 5:23 PM PST
