> Does anybody remember Sandra before her cooking shows? I have vague memories of her being on QVC selling a valance she had invented. It was no-sew, no-hardware. You just covered it with material that tucked into a seam at the back and it fitted over your window. She did amazing variations and designs with the material. They were so good. When she first started her cooking shows she did tablescaping to go along with the theme of her cooking. At the beginning of the show she would always thank her grandmother, not her parents, so i think there's some sadness there.........Penny. > > -- chopsticks are the reason the Japanese did not invent custard I seem to remember that on QVC (although I don't remember watching it very much)...wasn't her sister who made them with her???I remember my daughter not liking her stuff, said it was ''too fufu\frilly\country looking to her''....she liked more modern. -- Cin(\0/) God is so big He can cover the whole world with his Love ~~~~and so small He can curl up inside your heart~~~~

I appreciate Sandra fighting to make a living and feed her family but at the same time I really have to balk at the stuff she makes because it's not really semi-homemade, it's more like completely store bought and you just add a little of this or that. Like she will say to buy frosting in a can then add some vanilla. I'm left wondering, "WHY?" I mean why bother adding a lil vanilla? I wish they'd do something else with her because the semi homemade stuff is just disappointing. -- Worries go down better with soup. ~Jewish Proverb

I'd watch a cooking show if Cin was on it too. Could be called "Cin-fully Good Cooking" or something like that. All of her food pictures are so pretty. I also thought of Grease when I read about the high school dance contest. Fun times! -- Lisa

That's cool, Cin! It reminds me of the Rydell High dance in "Grease"! I love that movie! -- Jennifer "Every Saint Has A Past, Every Sinner Has A Future"

My partner and I came in second)..oh well that had nothing to do with cooking teeheehee. -- Cin(\0/) God is so big He can cover the whole world with his Love ~~~~and so small He can curl up inside your heart~~~~

I think I'll just be quietly grateful that the Food Network Canada doesn't run this show. I'm all for simple recipes, and incorporating non-homemade things like bottled tomato sauce and ever-reliable broths and stocks from Campbell's just makes sense. And who's going to make puff pastry from scratch when Pepperidge Farm does it so well?! We see the chefography show here, and I'll watch for that episode - sounds as though her life and success are more interesting than the recipes.

She got a show because although her recipes aren't all that great, she is a smart buisness woman who can market herself well. I saw her chefography on Food Network and she is very ambitious and driven. She was really poor and she had to find some way to stretch her money to feed her family. -- Jennifer "Every Saint Has A Past, Every Sinner Has A Future" -- Edited by 2864590 at Nov 7, 2009 4:12 PM PST

Oooh if Cin had a show I'd watch it! She'd have so many wonderful titles for her recipes. Creative lady! I'm not sure how Sandra Lee got a show if all she seems to do is reassemble store bought stuff. Anyone can do that! -- Worries go down better with soup. ~Jewish Proverb

One day I saw her show and she was making something that called for lemon juice and she said you should use bottled and that it was cheaper. In my store, buying a couple lemons is way cheaper than the bottled stuff and every real chef I've seen insists on freshly squeezed juices.
