My standard brownie recipe is pretty unremarkable, with no additions, but they're so good, plus quick and easy. I'm not a fan of nuts in brownies, but the recipe includes the option of chopped walnuts or pecans. There's a recipe from Ina Garten (I think it was her) that called for having some peanut butter added to the batter. A touch of mocha flavour can be nice too - not so much that you can really taste coffee, but to give an extra complexity of flavour. Oh Penny, now you've got me thinking I must make brownies today! • Janet

Penny, I saw Paula Deen make brownies - she put half of the batter in the pan, then she put a layer of milk chocolate bars and then put the rest of the batter in. Personally, I love walnuts in brownies. Or, you could turn them into a fancy dessert - a scoop of ice cream on a brownie square topped with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and nuts. My kids loves these "Brownie Sundaes". -- Carol B.
