Thanksgiving dinner was delicious, and with great company. Of course that's really what it's all about, but the food sure does make it even better! I did get a take-home package that gave us a next-day reprise of the hot dinner. Inspired by the yumminess of the turkey (we just don't have it often enough), I also picked up a smallish turkey breast on sale, and roasted it to continue the celebration into lunch-time sandwiches. Those Hot Bird sandwiches sound wonderful! My dad always liked to recreate the entire Thanksgiving meal on a sandwich, in all its messy glory. Thank you for all your good wishes to the Canadian Campbell's contingent. I think I might have to revisit Thanksgiving next month to coincide with the American celebration! • Janet

Our Thanksgiving has become a rather quiet affair since it's just the four of us at home now and no out of town family visits. Musts include turkey, corn, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce (jellied - from a can, complete with can-imprint on the sides before it's sliced), and biscuits or rolls, of course. I like to try to make sure we have some steamed asparagus if I can find it, or we have broccoli instead. I like to try to allow time to make the stuffing from my mom's handed down recipe, but lately I have resorted to stove top because the kids and husband like it better than Mom's and that's okay. Sometimes I will make a smaller batch of homemade, just for me. Leftovers are my favorite part, and I like to make what a local place used to call a Hot Bird sandwich. It's unbelievable what they put on that thing - wheat bread, cranberry sauce spread on the bottom piece, a layer of stuffing (yes - stuffing on a sandwich! LOL), a nice layer of turkey, a piece of cheddar or your favorite type of cheese, then a top piece of bread spread with leftover gravy. Heat in the microwave until hot through. Ridiculously fattening and impossible to eat without a fork. Heehee! But OH so good! -- Lisa

DJ, I always do the standard turkey, mashed potatoes & gravy, stuffing, and green bean casserole but since it's just the two of us, I like to switch up the appetizers and dessert. I'm thinking I'm going to do the standard deviled eggs for an appetizer this year. And, I froze a bag of mixed berries during berry season, so I think I'll make my Quadrupal Berry Pie this year for dessert. -- ~~"Crock Pot Queen" Sherrie

> I need to start planning my American Turkey Day > menu! > ~~"Crock Pot Queen" Sherrie Sherrie, Is your menu different every year? Ours is pretty much the same every year! I've suggested it be different. The family (the 2nd generation) likes the traditional family meal! We don't have green bean casserole, so it's not the "traditional" menu as some have. It's what our family has made it's own tradition.... Smoked Turkey & homemade dressing (cornbread dressing) Ham (NOT my choice of course LOL) Sweet potato casserole ( with a pecan crunch on top,not marshmallows ) Asparagus casserole Broccoli and cheese casserole 7 layered salad OR spinach/strawberry salad Stacy's Fruit Salad (with homemade whip cream) Homemade yeast dinner rolls Water, tea and wine For dessert: Pumpkin Crunch German Chocolate Pie Chocolate cake Pecan Pie

Hi Janet, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. We celebebrated yesteday as well as today. It's so nice to have the family together to share a turkey dinner with all of the trimmings. I can't wait to have a turkey sandwich for lunch tomorrow. Thanks to all our friends at Campbell's for your Thanksgiving wishes. -- Carol B.

Happy Thanksgiving Janet, Carol, and any other Canadians reading. I love Autumn and feel it's the true beginning of the Holiday season. This year with the stores putting out Christmas things so early, it's even easier to believe it's right around the corner! Hee! -- Lisa

> Tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving, and I'll be at > friends' for dinner, taking along home-made dinner Happy Thanksgiving Janet....AND Carol! I just love this time of year, cooler temps, shorter days, celebration of hearth and home, food, friends, family! It's a tad over 6 weeks until we celebrate our American Thanksgiving, here! Before I left for out-of-town, Friday, I sent out our DJ Family Thanksgiving newsletter and invitation! I can't remember if it's 15 years or more since we've been hosting Thanksgiving weekend here in our home! After shopping, games of all sorts, playing with the younger children, we exchange Christmas gifts on that Friday with my husband's side of the family too. Not only am I making my menu, requesting each family to bring what has become tradition for Thanksgiving, but searching for a gift to exchange in the Chinese gift exchange! So, let the holiday planning and festivities continue! -- Edited by 795120 at 10/12/2008 3:26 PM PDT -- Edited by 795120 at 10/12/2008 3:26 PM PDT
